I am going to assume a Star Wars or Murderbot level of general machine intelligence, because it's fun. Droids/bots are fairly commonplace, though mostly with animal levels of intelligence (sometimes confusing when they have LLM-type language skills). Human-level intelligence and self-awareness is possible, though. Once again the Goldilocks principle holds: Solomani use them but are skeptical of full intelligence and when they do make one, they're second-class citizens at best, slaves at worst. Vilani have them around, and in theory grant them full citizenship when they've paid themselves off. Zhodani do not create them casually, since they're a large investment in something that is a free citizen upon instantiation, but they're pretty common and are generally just another person.
