The Terran Republic. like the Inukari Union, is a federation of independently-governed planets, at least on paper. In practice, the federation has increasingly interfered in planetary government, citing effects on interstellar trade.

This has ironically made it less unified than the Alliance, to the point where the Presidency really only controls the Terran Cluster. The rest of the "Republic" is more or less in a state of rebellion, fragmented into various groups of planets mostly by ethnicity/religion/place of origin.

The citizens are almost entirely Terran, a human species from the planet Earth. There are also a few Dragons and uplifted species. There is one primary interstellar language, Terranglish, with many more on various planets.

The Republic is divided into Clusters. The Terran Cluster is fully J-2 accessible, in four J-1 subclusters. Terra has military control of the systems in the Gateway Cluster, connecting the Republic to the Ring. The Republic asserts sovereignty over all the worlds behind Gateway, but other clusters are less well-controlled. The Zhdezplier recognizes the sovereignty of about a third of the breakaway worlds, while the Alliance prefers to leave things more ambiguous for diplomacy's sake.

The government is a representative democracy, with three branches of government, though skewed heavily enough toward the executive that the government is usually referred to as simply The Presidency.
